Anxiety is a concern we deal with a lot here at Riverpath Counseling Colorado. We love to help people move from a place of being stressed out and \”amped up\” all the time to a place where they can more fully live their lives. When people come in to see us after struggling with anxiety for so long, they\’re usually ready for the relief that comes after just a few sessions.
Not everyone is comfortable reaching out, though. Counseling still seems foreign to people and many folks are hesitant to ask for help. After all, we\’re a country founded on \”pulling yourself up by your boot straps\” and unfortunately, asking for help with your mental well-being is seen by many as a weakness. Strangely enough though, no one would have a problem suggesting that they\’re going to the doctor for a swollen ankle; mental health is seen in a different light.
This post is really for those of you who are on the fence; the people that are searching the internet for answers as to how they can end their anxiety. Counseling is a great option for you for so many reasons:
Here at Riverpath, we get to be your educated guide to help move you through the process. We\’re not going to sit across from you and judge you for asking for help, we\’re going to be your ally in the process. Just yesterday, I had a new client come in with anxiety that bothered her tremendously and she left with hope and a sense of relief after I showed her a road map for her way through anxiety to a full and meaningful life. While I wouldn\’t profess to having fixed the anxiety in one session, hope is important after feeling so isolated for so long and that\’s what she left with — and a smile on her face.
Counseling is a way to be connected with someone whose explicit goal is to help you get where you\’re trying to go and has the tools to do it. I know many people are afraid that counseling is only about sitting on a couch and having someone to listen to your problems but that\’s not the full truth, especially not here at Riverpath. When dealing with anxiety, both Melissa and I have tools — things you can do on your own — to help navigate the hard parts. Our goal is to give you the resources that you need so that you don\’t need to keep coming to us forever; so that you can remain empowered in your own life.
We\’re here to tell you that you don\’t have to be \”broken\” to get help; we believe that you\’re already great the way you are but just have stumbling blocks in your way. Let us help you remove those stumbling blocks of anxiety so that you don\’t have to do it all alone.
